Medical Director

Dr. Michael Lavor – Assistant Medical Director

Dr. Michael Lavor is a graduate of the University of New Mexico Medical School. He completed his internship at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago and his residency through University of Illinois Metro Group Hospitals, including Mercy Hospital, Cook County Hospital, Illinois Masonic Hospital and Lutheran General Hospital.

After 23 years in private practice as a Trauma, Vascular and General Surgeon, Dr. Lavor retired from active practice in surgery in July 2014, although he remains with Saguaro Surgical, the practice he founded, as the assistant medical director. He will focus not only on assuring Saguaro Surgical’s high medical standards are maintained, but also that all of the latest technologies and services are available for patients in Southern Arizona, including the following:

  • General and vascular surgery
  • Advanced laparoscopic interventions
  • Office-based minimally invasive varicose vein treatment
  • Accredited vascular diagnostic lab
  • Office-based endovascular surgical suite
  • Wound care

In addition to his work as Assistant Medical Director at Saguaro Surgical, Dr. Lavor will continue as Medical Director of Saguaro Surgical Wound Care Center, through state-of-the-art treatments, he remains available to provide specialized therapy for chronic or non-healing wounds.

Dr. Lavor was a member of the Trauma Team at Tucson Medical Center where he also served as Chairman of the Department of General and Vascular Surgery. He is past Chief of Surgery and past Chief of Staff at El Dorado Hospital. Dr. Lavor was board certified in General Surgery and was a fellow in the American College of Surgeons, past president of the Rocky Mountain Vascular Surgical Society, a Fellow in the Southwestern Surgical Congress, a member of the Tucson Surgical Society, a member of the International Society of Endovascular Surgery and the Pima County Medical Society.

Dr. Lavor served in the Navy for ten years as a Navy Corpsman with the Marines; he returned to service in 2009 and served as a Commander / OIC of a wound surgical base in Afghanistan from 2012-2013. He also was a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Arizona Medical Center Department of Surgery.

He remains on staff at Tucson Medical Center and Tucson Surgery Center.
